Embora essa distin\u00e7\u00e3o simples permane\u00e7a v\u00e1lida na maioria dos casos, existem v\u00e1rias exce\u00e7\u00f5es que exigem crit\u00e9rios adicionais para diferenciar esses dois corantes. Entretanto, h\u00e1 exce\u00e7\u00f5es ou, pelo menos, casos lim\u00edtrofes. Por exemplo, os corantes de redu\u00e7\u00e3o, como o \u00edndigo usado para tingir jeans, normalmente s\u00e3o insol\u00faveis em \u00e1gua, mas se \"dissolvem\" por meio da redu\u00e7\u00e3o durante o processo de tingimento.<\/p>\n<p>Ao contr\u00e1rio dos corantes, os pigmentos s\u00e3o sempre insol\u00faveis em \u00e1gua em seu meio de aplica\u00e7\u00e3o: qualquer grau de solubilidade (denominado \"sangramento\" no setor de pigmentos) \u00e9 considerado um defeito.
