Ferrocene Usage

The main applications of ferrocene are described as follows:
(1) Used as energy-saving soot eliminator and anti-explosive agent for fuels. Such as used to make gasoline anti-explosive agent, rocket propellant combustion rate catalyst, solid fuel for aerospace, etc.
(2) Used as catalyst. Such as used to make ammonia catalyst, as silicone resin, rubber ripening agent, can stop the degradation of polyethylene to light, used in agricultural land film, can be made in a certain period of time to natural degradation of cracking, does not affect the cultivation of fertilizer.
(3) Used as gasoline anti-explosive agent. It can replace the toxic tetraethyl lead in gasoline as an anti-explosive agent to make high-grade unleaded gasoline, in order to eliminate the pollution of fuel emissions to the environment and the poisonous effects on human beings.
(4) Used as radiation absorber, heat stabilizer, light stabilizer and smoke inhibitor.
(5) Chemically, ferrocene is similar to aromatic compounds, it is not easy to undergo addition reactions but easy to undergo electrophilic substitution reactions, and can undergo metallization, acylation, alkylation, sulfonation, formylation and complex exchange reactions, which can prepare a series of widely used derivatives.

Ferrocene Application scenarios

1. Fuel Additives:

As an energy-saving, smoke-reducing combustion enhancer, it can be used in fuels such as gasoline, diesel, heavy oil, and coal, reducing fuel consumption and exhaust smoke emissions. It can also increase the octane rating of gasoline and can replace tetraethyl lead as an anti-knock agent in gasoline, enabling the production of lead-free gasoline.

2. Aerospace Field:

It can be used as a burn rate catalyst for rocket propellants, regulating the combustion rate of propellants and improving the performance of rocket engines. It can also be used in coatings for spacecraft such as missiles and satellites.

3. Catalysts and Polymer Materials:

It can be used as a component of ammonia synthesis catalysts and as a curing agent for silicone resins and rubber, promoting cross-linking and solidification. It can also serve as a catalyst for polymerization reactions, used in the synthesis of high-temperature polymers and other macromolecular compounds. Furthermore, it can act as a heat stabilizer and light stabilizer for polymer materials, preventing photodegradation of materials such as polyethylene, for example, in agricultural mulching films to make them naturally biodegradable.

4. Material Protection:

It can be used as a radiation absorber and ultraviolet absorber, protecting materials from radiation and ultraviolet damage. It can also be used to prepare high-temperature lubricants, suitable for lubrication needs under special working conditions.

5. Other Fields:

It can be used as an intermediate in organic synthesis, for the synthesis of various organic compounds; some derivatives can be used in the preparation of anti-malarial drugs, possessing certain medicinal value; it can also be used in the preparation of silicone oil emulsions and other products.
